• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not that i needed yet another radio, but....

I was initially thinking maybe a QT80/6666 Pro down the road (as i currently love my QT40), but i never liked the look of the 6666. I do like the look of the original AT-5555, but i could never find the N version with NRC. Just the Plus. I found the CRT SS6900V, but importing it from France was going to cost a fortune.
Last night i hopped on E-Bay again and came upon a steal of a deal. The Retevis Ailunce HS4. It's a rebranded AT-5555 Plus/N (the newest version), but Retevis was having a celebration sale, plus offered a 20% off coupon code on top of that. After the sale price and coupon code i snagged it for $175.99! w/free shipping and it included a mag mount antenna as well. I'm pretty stoked. Now to wait as it's coming direct from Retevis and could take 2-4 weeks to get here.

Dang! It arrived today! 5 days from HK to my front door. Impressive. So far, so good. Conversion is the same as the 5555. The programming software, while rebadged, still says Anytone in spots. Haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but I like it so far. Really liking the backlighting and that it also remembers individual channel settings. The LCD looks better in person than it does in the photo. The background is not really that bright/washed out. Its 95% fully dark.

I still have a brand new never used Radio Shack TRC-24A that was made in Japan. I have thought about using it since I never have used any channel higher than ch. 21. This model CB radio is the model that if you clip the black wire behind the channel selector switch for the blank channel position you'll be able to use this channel position which was called channel 22A ( blank spot on the channel dial) prior to the implementation of the 40 Ch. Radio. Channel 22A is actually ch. 24 today.

Back in my Van Club days in the 70's, everybody in the Club would run with this model CB and Ch. 22A was our private club channel use because no one else had figured that mod out. The other van clubs would see us using the radio and hear the adjacent channel bleed over but never could figure out what channel we were using.20240818_053620_resized.jpg20240818_053723_resized.jpg

Hah! That's awesome. We did similar, but with export radios or modded 148's. We'd run either ch41 or an Alpha channel to get away from the masses back in the 90's.

Very cool. I bet you could score some serious cash on ebay or similar from a collector. Not easy to find mint condition vintage gear these days.

Well... after about a week of using this radio, i really like it. The RX on it blows away any other radio i have. It has ears for miles. Not only locally, but DX-wise as well. My QT40 (Ares II clone) has really great ears, but this rig (AnyTone 5555 plus/N version 7 clone) hears stations that nothing else does. Really impressed with it. TX audio gets great reports even with just using the stock mic. Not having to "reboot it" (like the QT40) to make menu changes is also a plus. The downside is no WX band, otherwise for a base station it's great. I could see the display washing out in the mobile like the Uniden 885/880/980 does in the sun. However that's not an issue for my use case since it's inside the house. Not disappointed with this purchase at all.

You could just leave it as is out of the box (10 meter). I just prefer the conversion for 10/11 meter & free band. I also reprogrammed band F to be UK FM CB frequencies. Fun rig for the $$.
Is the conversion a "snip the wire and move the jumper" type ? Or do I need to use a computer to reprogram?
