I have a simple question:

I am planning on buying a 500 soon.
Will the Nov 11 upgrade be the "upgrade" that addresses ALL the bugs, or will it be the first of many?

I have a BC 250D that works just fine for now, but is almost 5 years old.

Although I do not own one and will never own one, I am thinking I Phone problems, and how the people who bought the first phones say they wish they had waited for a little while to buy one.
I never found out how long a "little while" is.

Thanks
Dic

There are a handful of people who have trouble with tracking some P25 systems. A firmware upgrade for the DSP for this problem is due to be released at any time and additional changes soon after for the CPU. As for the other radio functions, even the people with tracking problems are really having good luck with the radio. There are many features to learn about and these are just now being discussed on this forum. I'm confident that this radio is one of the best available trunking scanners to hit the market, and is going to break sales records in the months to come. It already has excellent software support from two sources and soon another. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with it once you decide to purchase one, but keep in mind that it has a unique memory structure and almost all functions are user adjustable. There is a learning curve for programming, but the software that is currently available will help you there. Two reviews have been written on the 500 one in the Aug. issue of Popular Communications and another in the Nov. issue of Monitoring times.

Monitoring Times Review - "MT takes its First Look at the GRE PSR-500 this month. Bottom line? "No one in the scanner marketplace right now offers a handheld scanner model that has the listening capability that is found in the PSR-500." - Larry Van Horn

1) All "what" bugs?
2) The PSR500 has nothing to do with the Bearcat line
3) Nor the IPhone
4) I'd lay pretty low odds that this will be the only update ever issued
5) Since we don't know all the details of the upgrade, how can anyone answer what all it fixes?

I'm sure the subject of GRE posting new firmware will get its own thread, but has anyone installed what was posted today? Maybe it's mislabeled as 1.0? It shows "modified today".

Anyone gonna take the plunge?

Could someone post a direct link to whatever it is? I couldn't find anything on the GRE website.

If you're referring to the "Modified: 05 Nov 2007 04:10 PM" that appears on the GRE download page, I believe that's when it was added to the GRE web site, not necessarily when the firmware was created (especially given the displayed "Release Date 09/03/2007").

I doubt that the upgrade will fix ALL the bugs--I wouldn't want to wait for it that long! I'm happy to fix whatever bugs they get a handle on as soon as they're ready. Who in the world would want them to withold a good upgrade just because an additional fix might be on the horizon? I say send the fixes as you find them, GRE!
