I like the idea of number tags in the XT scanners, but I didn't like the idea of having to type them in manually, or worse enter them via the scanner key pad. As a result, I was only going to use a few for critical channels, but I think I've come up with a better idea.
I created an Excel sheet with 10 colums, each with 100 numbers. Those 10 columns correspond with the ten Groups for which there are quick keys in the system. The rows 001-100, 101-200, 201-300, etc. correspond with channels within those quick keys. When I'm setting up a new system after I've entered everything else, I go to the Excel sheet and cut and past the columns, as needed.
For example to go to System 1, Group 1, Channel 1, enter HOLD|1|.|101|MENU. To enter System 3, Group 4, Channel 43, enter HOLD|3|.|443|MENU.
You have to remember to give each system a number tag or you will only be able to go to channels when you are holding within that system. This might not work if you have more than 10 Groups in a system, but I'm not sure.
