For $7 more, you can get this:
https://www.amazon.com/Cambio-Windows-Touchscreen-Computer-Bluetooth/dp/B0188NA4DS/

It comes with Windows 10 and a USB 2.0 port. Use it for all your radio programming needs.

Added to my wishlist. :D After buying the 536, NXDN upgrade, RR subscription, I have to wait a week or to to keep the true cost of my new hobby from my wife. :D:D

I had that other stick on my wishlist as an alternative if my wife got one of those new Cricket vinyl cutter things. :p

You forgot the DMR upgrade.

:D

It's coming. I grabbed the NXDN while it was still $30. I'll add the others as needed.

Sentinel is your only option for updating the scanner firmware and the full database. It also has a decent favorite list editor.

A better alternative than Arc is ProScan. One version can be used with almost every Uniden scanner, rather than having to buy a separate version for each scanner family. And it has remote control, recording, and logging features that are far better than any other program.

That said, the question isn't 'which is better than Sentinel' (all three programs have features the others do not) - the question is 'which would I want in addition to Sentinel'.

I have Sentinel, ARC and ProScan.

Sentinel is my main "Workhorse".

I'll use ARC for Virtual Control/Loggin and to "pretty-up" Favorites Lists, such as change to upper case and justify tags. If there is a system that I'm in a rush to update and can't wait for the Uniden weekly database pull, I'll use ARC to get a recently changed system.

I'm only beginning to learn Proscan and being honest, am a litttle intimidated by it.

Why pay for something when the "free" thing does the job?

Use Sentinel and find it's limitations -- the things that really matter to you - then "try" other products and decide if they are worth paying for.

Uniden is a hardware manufacturer. They may provide software to assist with their product's functionality, but it's not their main "cup of tea".

ARC and Proscan are software people, but not hardware. So their products do things that Sentinel does not.

I agree that if basic updating and programming is all that is desired, Sentinel will suffice. But if you are looking for logging and other such things, ARC and Proscan are the only solutions.

I have all 3 also but new to ProScan. I like all 3. I use ARC & ProScan to edit favorites and pull new data from RRDB if I can't wait till Monday morning. I like the Virtual Control in both but like the ProScan Virtual better. They all get lifetime updates so there's no negatives to owning all 3.

arc or sentinel

thanks guys for all the info on all the software. i currently use sentinel for my --36. I downloaded the trial version of arc pro and it was kind of nice to work with. I haven't tried pro scan yet i may do that, and if i like it i may download both.

again thanks

If you don't need all the features of ARC536 Pro there is a basic version of the program which is what I use. Basic has a lower cost then Pro but it depends on what features you wish to have. I also have Proscan and of course Sentinel. I base my choice of which program to use based on the situation. An example is that I recently did the NXDN upgrade and could not hear a local NXDN user when programmed with Proscan but it does work when programmed with ARC536. Also at the current time Sentinel does not support NXDN programming.

You can't use Sentinel yet. You will have to use ProScan or else wait for Sentinel to be updated.
