High guys, i am looking for opinions on the best reasonably priced radios for picking up NXDN freq's. Previously lost local Sheriffs dept and EMS to NXDN freq's. Just last week lost the Police dept. Now need to purchase a new radio for these freq's and wanted your advice. Thanks

Before investing in a new scanner for NXDN you should invest in a SDR and DSD+FL (about $60) to see if the new radios are encrypted as @Whiskey3JMC mentioned. It would also let you collect information to submit to the RR database for an update and for programming a new scanner (if needed).

Once you determine TGID(s) and RAN code, database will need to be updated
My bad, Treutlen County Sheriff is already in the database as NXDN, previously I was looking at Soperton Police. Good news is no encryption

Thanks guys, Whiskey3JMC, I'm pretty sure the Police dept is doing the same. Their signals started acting the same as the Sheriff's did when they changed over. I checked their license data and it expires next month so I figured they're going that way also, thr R.R. website just hasn't got updated.

I already have a whistler 1065 that I can pick up everything else on so I was thinking about going with a Uniden BCD260DN just for DMR and NXDN. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Just got one. Very happy
How do you like it? I have the BCD160DN which works fine outdoors. But, inside, with the included antenna ( and a better one I have) it could not handle RFI inside my radio room. My Uniden BCD436HP does much better indoors.
I have been toying around with the idea of getting a BCD260DN for my indoor Airband receiver.

But how do you find it useful to have a scanner that cannot pin-point only the groups you want to listen to ?
I mean, if I am not mistaken, the 160 and 260 scanners receive DMR and NXDN « wide open », eg without being able to specify talkgroups, right ?

Yes single frequency does have TG's but under normal use not multiple TG's per Frequency. Our FD DMR setup when we switch will have 2 TG's 1 for Dispatch on Slot 1 and 1 for a 2nd TG on slot 2.

That is how our work radios are set up, multiple TGs per freq slot 1 and slot 2. It is also how Amazon radios are set up as well. Seems to be a common practice.
