If it is a system, they may have a talk a round on one of the frequencies in the system, you'd probably have to monitor all of them until you figure it out. Keep in mind you need to be within a mile or two at most to hear a simplex frequency and they may not have a talk around in the system at all.

Whats the best way of finding a simplex freq within a NXDN system???
Information is your friend - I would lookup the FCC license for the interested group. Identify which frequencies are used by the NXDN system, and the frequencies NOT used. The frequencies NOT used by the trunk system may very be used as low power simplex.

Keep in mind, frequencies NOT used may very well be not used.

So, if there is a talk a round, it would be the same freqs as the system?

Not necessarily.

If you look at the FCC license, you'll see at least two entries:
FB2 (or some other number), that'll be the repeater OUTPUT
MO, That'll be the repeater input and those can usually be used in simplex mode.

So, look at the license, and try plugging in all their MO frequencies and see what you hear.

Some license for -just- a simplex frequency also, so there may or may not be an FB2 attached.

If you told us who you were trying to hear, we could help you find the license.
