Cleaning up the mess...

Gentlemen,

Some things need to be clarified above.

Post #1: The Harbor Unit, being a part of the Special Operations Division, is dispatched over 470.8375. Their "Company" channel is Marine Ch. 17 (156.850).

Post #2: 123.050 is not an Aviation Unit frequency. That is the unicom frequency for the heliports on the Hudson River / New York Harbor. 123.075 is also not an Aviation Unit frequency. That is the unicom frequency for the heliport on the East River.

Post #5: The correct PL for 470.8375 is 136.5.

Posts #6 and 9: While Aviation helicopters are dispatched on 470.8375, they will routinely switch over to the Zone channel of the precinct making the request for their services. If a police helicopter is flying on a mission for the fire department (i.e.: high rise rescue operation, brush fire operation, or air reconnaissance), they will first pick up an FD battalion chief, who in turn will communicate with FDNY ground units over FDNY channels (unless going on a high rise rescue operation, were NYPD Tac U will be used - to allow for communication to both FDNY and NYPD units). An excellent resource for New York City related frequency information is www.n2nov.net Click on the "NYPD, FDNY and EMS frequencies" hyperlink for details. When flying on a traffic reporting mission, the helicopter will come up on the NYPD Traffic (Highway Patrol) channel.

Post # 8: You're welcome. Bottom line...once dispatched, you'll hear the helicopter come up on whatever channel they are needed on.

From my remote location near Albany and monitoring via the Internet, it seems as if the major action is in Brooklyn nowadays.

They still doing building barbecue up there? Or is the flame of the day abandoned cars now?

"abandoned"? they dont wait for you to get out of your car, this isnt newark, nj. here they'll burn the car and check for occupants later, or leave that with the fdny!

na, no more building bbqs, landlords left, insurance co. dont insure da bronx anymore! they all moved to brooklyn!

when the yankees play here they have 82nd airborne division with flybyes, couple of sikorsky helicopters with 50mm.

Just wanted to confirm a few things

Since it's been about 3 years since this thread was last active, I just wanted to confirm that this information is still accurate. Does the NY Harbor Patrol still use 156.850 because I haven't heard any activity on there in a very long time? OR is all their traffic now on 470.8375 for the most part? I also found a listing for 163.175 being another NY Harbor Patrol frequency on n2nov's site. Is this frequency connected with the units on 470.8375? I know the Coast Guard aviation-band channels in this area are 122.900 and 123.100, are there any additional ones now? I'm just wondering if the units using all of these frequencies mentioned above have the ability to communicate with each other? If so, is there one commone inter-op frequencies used by all the harbor patrol and coast guard units. Is that frequency 414.750? I had that one written in my notes as a homeland security interop frequency, but it was noted several years ago. Thanks for your help in advance.

It's the middle of winter...what do you expect to happen on Harbor channels?

I'm just wondering if the units using all of these frequencies mentioned above have the ability to communicate with each other?
N2ZGE,

Yes, they do. Aside from the common VHF Marine Channels (i.e.: State Control / Channel 17), there is...

As mentioned above, both the Harbor Unit and the Aviation Unit are part of the Special Operations Division, as is the Emergency Service Unit - who are often called out to water related emergencies. Should the need arise for an Aviation Unit helicopter, and/or a Harbor Unit launch, and/or an ESU ground based unit to communicate with each other and they do not wish to tie up the SOD channel, they will switch to TAC G (473.6875, 210.7), the primary SOD point-to-point channel .

With regard to 414.750R...that frequency is the UHF side (the VHF high band side is 167.7875R, $653) of the US DOJ (not US DHS) Wireless Management Office's High-Risk Metropolitan Area Interoperability Assistance Project. The frequencies are intended for use primarily for base-to-base communications, with some very limited, highly specialized mobile use.
