Does the NYPD use mobile radios in in thier cars?

Yes. But they are generally seen more in specialty units, bosses cars, unmarked cars. They are in some "routine" patrol cars but more than likely not. They can be requested if needed. The older ones are Motorola Spectras, the newer ones are Vertex VX-4000's or VX-5500's.

becase the entire city with the exception of the subways can be covered by a portable.
