And with the snow, comes activity.

460.3125/97.4 had lots of maintenance activity from Manchester and Weedsport plows, drivers referring to it as "channel 5".

Less activity on 460.6125/97.4, users calling it the "Manchester channel"

references to "he doesn't have the Weedsport Port Byron channel in that truck" -- still no fix on which channel that is.

(Big Nose is the name of the hill where the "Palatine tower" is, isn't it?)

I believe that you are correct in regards to Big Nose, but I could be wrong.

If you can figure out a way to delete it, then have at it. The site use to be free till people like to copy and paste work onto other sites and take credit for my work that took me hours of listening and organizing.

gr, I don't find anything wrong with his posting his web page. There is no outward advertising to click on it or sell anything. There are countless others who do the same thing. He just chooses to charge admittance.

My best advice to my fellow scanners is take advantage of the free information that is located here on radioreference and also on nf2g.com. Also on the FCC website. There are plenty of free websites where you will find all the information you need.

Happy Holidays to all

You have got to be kidding. No overt advertising? It's right there, sign up and pay for info.

No cash No info. The info here is FREE, there is a charge if you want the deluxe end of the deal which I do. No one has to buy anything on this site.

Big Nose Channel

Fellow scanners. The other day I heard 2 people talking on the Big Nose channel 460.3125 (123.0 PL) in the zone 2 Albany division. 1 person said to the other one that they had been trying to contact someone on the Big Nose Channel and that they were not able to contact them. The other person said to him DO YOU KNOW THAT THE BIG NOSE CHANNEL DOES NOT WORK FROM AMSTERDAM EAST. He said that the Big Nose Channel only works from Amsterdam Exit 27 and west.

Just wanted to pass this information along.

P.S. For the Zone 2 Albany Division does anyone have any info on any of these new frequencies being used from Kingston To Amsterdam.

Does anyone else have any new NYS Thruway Frequency information to add, please feel free.

Thanks again and have a very safe and happy holiday season.

I finally had a chance to research the "Big Nose" designator. Big Nose is the name of a rock formation along the Mohawk River near Sprakers, NY (Montgomery County). This is in the area where Route 5S diverges from the Thruway going east. That is probably the transmitter site and would be blocked further east by terrain.

Yes Dave, you are correct. There are actually two large hills called "the noses" where the river cut through a ridge. The thruway tower is actually along the river bank there and would be blocked by the hills to any eastward transmissions. It's actually a rather scenic area, and interesting from a transportation point of view- The Barge canal, thruway and CSX (formerly NY Central's Water Level Route) are all within a few hundred yards of each other. But as usual, I digress....
