There's some elegant simplicity in how this works today. Having everyone on the same channel can be frustrating - but if you think about it - everyone's on the same page. They know what's closed, what's open, where there are problems, etc. They can communicate key pieces of information quickly, efficiently, and without the game of telephone. You split that up operationally then some of the pure simplicity is lost. It's now incumbent on dispatch to relay - correctly - and timely. Everyone knows that almost depends on the specific dispatcher in the chair - some good and some have challenges........ There is always the opposite way - split it all up - but for anyone who has listened for years can appreciate how seemingly well the whole thing operates to an outsider today. Hope it stays that way.
It might say that on paper but our taxes go into the NYSP/NYSDOT budget. We all know how the government operates when it comes to shuffling tax money around.

There is a ton of radio traffic for the thruway Esp down here in Zone 1 (which is more than just the mainline Thruway)

From what I heard over the years my understanding is all the dispatchers sit in the same room in the same building for all zones. HQ is basically the supervisor over all the zones. Usually you hear them handing off interzone items etc. I think they interact with all units - but maybe they only really do so with the troopers. It's been a while and I haven't paid that close attention.
