Ever since I moved to Ocean County, I've been hearing data on two frequencies. These frequencies are 508.062 MHz and 508.137 MHz. Data is first heard on 508.062 MHz, stops, than starts back up again on 508.137 MHz. This repeats for about 1-3 minutes. Today, at this very moment, the data is lasting a long time, usually it only lasts about 1-3 minutes but it's lasting for about 6 minutes. This doesn't seem like encrypted communications. These are bursts of data, not continuous data streams. Does anyone know what this could be?

EDIT: It's 7:47 and as of now, it's still going on. Here is an MP3 audio sample: http://www.freewebs.com/filingeri/misc/octrsdata1.mp3.

I hope it stops soon, its taking away from hearing the other frequencies i have. :x

I usually don't lock it out because it only lasts about 2 minutes, but I just locked out those two frequencies.

EDIT: Heard it again in the background when the dispatcher was talking.

it must be something with the county, because if you listen closely when the dispatcher talks you can hear it in the background, hopefully radio repair will check it out. maybe it has something to do with a certain talkgroup i didn't get my trunking scanner yet so i can't see if its a problem with a talkgroup.

It's been doing this for months but never this long, I can't believe it's almost been on for an hour.

I'm going to talk to DJfan88 about it, maybe he knows anything about it.

County might have taken 506.0625 and 508.137 off the system for now, i haven't seen those frequencies come up when the county was talking. i've notice that the only frequencies that come up now are: 506.6125,506.6625,508.1625

I see use on 506.612, 506.662, 508.062, and 508.137. I hear law enforcement on 506.612 and 506.662 and I hear SCAT and data on 508.062 and 508.137.

There are 11 frequencies in the trunked system, 506.6125, 506.6625, 506.6875, 506.7875, 506.8125, 506.8375, 508.0625, 508.0875, 508.1375, 508.1625, 508.4375 (Primary Control Channel). If you are monitoring this system in the conventional mode there's a good chance you may hear one specific agency on many different frequencies.

On a trunked system, when the dispatcher keys the microphone to talk to a unit, that transmission goes out over the first open/unused frequency in the system. When the unit responds, that transmission is sent back to the dispatcher on the next open/unused frequency. There are no specific frequencies assigned to the different agencies. It's kind of a random thing. The agencies use Talk Groups, which are specific to each agency. When the dispatcher wants to talk to, say, a Beachwood PD unit, the transmission will go out over their Talk Group 320, but it may go out on a different frequency each time he or she talks to that unit during the course of a conversation. And each time the unit responds back to the dispatcher, the same thing will occur with the frequencies. I don't know if either of you have a trunk tracking scanner, but if you do, you can see this if you watch the screen on the scanner during the course of a conversation.

Hi Joseph and all,

I can't get a handle on that .mp3 you're supposedly linking to, all I get is right back here where I started each try on each page.

From your description of course it's not a stream, it's packet bursts. That should give you a clue at least.

This is an old topic, over 2 months old. The link is dead because I deleted the file. But I found out what it is. It's Motorola SCADA telementry to control sprinklers.
