Picked up a PRO-197 last night. My first new GRE since my PRO-2005. Anyhow after playing with the vscanner stuff for a couple of hours and successfully programming the NJSP Central system, I wiped the scanner back to factory and tried to setup the Ocean County trunked system and the NJSP Central system again. NJSP works fine.

I followed the same process when I setup Ocean, but I hear nothing. I have my BC296D next to me as well, so I know there is activity. Do I need to do something different than with the NJSP system? All I've really done is enter the control channels, tag, set TGs to wildcard.

Sorry if this belongs in the RS forum, but since I had one system working I thought the issue may be specific to programming a Mot UHF/VHF system instead of something more radio related.

thanks!

For the Ocean County system you also have to program the base frequency (505.000), Spacing (12.5) and the Offset Channel (380). These are required for all Motorola Type 2 UHF systems.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I didn't program in the base and offset, mainly because I couldn't figure out where to enter them and I couldn't find an explanation of how to do that either in my manual or in the "easier to read manual" online.

Would one of you please enlighten me?

Thanks again!

When you're programming the TSYS object, scroll down past "<<EXPERT BELOW>>" to "T Tables". Press ENT to go into it and edit the first table so Lo Chan=380, Hi Chan=759, Offset=380, Base=505.000000, Step=12.5.

I and many others very highly recommend Win500 for programming the Pro-106 and -197, as well as the GRE-500 and -600. You would have to buy a programming cable but Win500 itself has a 30-day free trial. I can't imagine programming my Pro-197 only by hand.

Excellent, working like a champ! Thanks so much.

I was tossing around WIN500 vs the ARC product. I have ARC250 for my BC296. I've used it rather infrequently since I bought it at about the same time I bought the 296 new, so I'm not married to the ARC line by any means. I did like that WIN500 offers a real trial period - ARC didn't have a similar program from the looks of it. I did purchase the cable at RS, but it was out of stock so I'm waiting around for it to show up. Hope it's here by the weekend.

Overall though programming trunking scanners sure has gotten simpler over the years. I had a PRO-91 I think prior to the 296. I was SO confused going from the PRO-2005 and a PRO-51 to it that I started to lose interest in the hobby. I come back every so often and now that it's so much simpler, I may stick with it a bit more again.

And I still have that 2005 setup in the basement, too.

Thanks again for getting me up and running here so quick!

I wanted to get back to you, but I got side tracked, I'm glad someone else jumped in and your up and running. I agree software is the way to go when programing the scanners out today. Well, I guess your back into the hobby, enjoy! :)
