Both are listed on a print-out from Scan NJ forums, & being new to Scanning, I'll have a lot of Ques.

Thanks Don

Simplex - Transmit and receive on the same frequency. Does not use a repeater.
Common simplex radio systems include SPEN, JEMS, FRS radios, CBs, etc.

Simulcast - Transmit from multiple locations/multiple frequencies at the same time (simultaneous broadcast).
Its used so that units in different areas or on different radio channels can all hear the same transmission at the same time. For example, the NJSP trunked radio system is simulcast so that units in the range of different radio towers can all hear the same transmission. Or, if you are switching from one radio system to another, you will often simulcast on both for a while to easy the transition.

Go to the link below for a brief explanation of the different types of radio systems.

http://www.northwestradio.com/interceptnw/101.htm

The title at the top "Scanning of Smartzone and Smartnet Trunking Systems" is a bit misleading. The first three categories, Simplex, Duplex (Repeater) and Simulcast all apply to conventional systems, so don't be confused by it. The info posted there is what you're looking for. Info on trunked systems is posted further down the page.

Here's another link that explains it also:

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask and either myself or the good people who are members here will do our best to help you.
