I'm surprised nobody mentioned the 45 minute pursuit yesterday here in Oklahoma City. The two suspects are allegedly bank robbers and were caught after they crashed. If you missed it on the news (or the live broadcast) it is available on the Channel 4 website:

http://www.kfor.com/Global/story.asp?S=4558572

After you get to this story, click on the video icon in the upper left corner. There are two videos available, the short one is the ending only and runs about 2 mins, 50 secs. The second video available is labeled "Entire Chase" and it runs a little over 28 minutes. The longer version has comments from the helicopter pilot and the news anchor person at the station. The driver crashes about 19:30 into the clip of the longer video. Watch as the car goes airborne, probably a good 12-15 feet in the air, since you see a lot of light between the airborne car and its shadow on the street.

Very cool video, I wish I had the scanner turned on while it was occurring!

I was at Leon's Radio picking up the new equipment when I heard it on the the radio station they had playing. At that point I went out and caught the rest of it on the scanner.

What a lot of people don't know, is that Luther, Jones, OCPD, OHP, and County got in on this. I was bouncing back and forth between City radio and County Eastside.

Fun stuff

After reviewing the chase video, I have to wonder if OCPD's dispatch does what Midwest City's dispatch does. They run 4,5,9, and Fox news in dispatch. In the event of a natural disaster or a terrorist act, they have continous news coverage, which can often be better than what is available to law enforcement.

So, when Jim Gardner says "If they can get Air One up, once they get on scene the officers will just hang back and let Air One track the vehicle", could not OCPD dispatch have been watching the live feed and reporting to the officers?

I wonder too if the suspects were using a scanner of some type. They seem to be able to fiogure out the stop sticks pretty good, and also what areas turned into dead ends. These are things that were being said on the radio.

Anyhow, just some observations.
