• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I bougth one of these radios when they first came out and that was the mid 1980's. Nice radio but limited.

Kevin

Yeah kev you're right they are limited for ham use if you set them up for such, but they pretty much have to have limited features for public safety users. The last thing you want is a firefighter or cop to have a d-uh moment in a crisis situation. Things like tone search and a full featured display aren't really needed.

Importing/selling non-type accepted radios.

Fines start in the 10k$ range per radio and go up from there, including confiscation of the equipment.

I am aware of the penalties but thats not the answer to my question.

Dave mentioned a "radio shop in NJ" and that is what I was enquiring about.

I believe that the proper FCC Equipment Authorization Code is Q9FDB-ANDY,

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm
Enter Q9F in the Grantee Code field, Then find the 10 records and click on the Detail for Q9FDB-ANDY, then click on Cover Letter and you will find the Original FCC ID of XBPTG-UV.

Then search for XBPTG-UV to find that the original applicant is Fujian Nanan Quansheng Electronics Co., Ltd., No 82, Qiuzhong Industry Area Xiamei Town, Nanan City, and it was approved on 07/14/2009.

Click on Details and then read the Justification Letter, apparently Holzberg Communications - Suppliers of Two-Way Radios and Communications Accessories is marketing their radio as transmitting on 136-174 & 420-490 MHz to satify the FCC.

Dual Band Radio - DB-ANDY - Holzberg Communications

I am trying to find some other sourses for the TG-UV now.

Looking at the correspondence with the other applications, it appears the FCC isn't too receptive to his applications. They dismissed a request for type 90 acceptance of a part 80 radio. Given the time frames, I'd expect to see this radio go down the same path within a few months. Why he's selling them with only an application for type acceptance in place, and no grant is a mystery to me, but I guess some people will do anything for a buck.
