Still clinging to hope a service manual might turn up in my lifetime....meanwhile, display lights out should have been a simple fix. I put it off repeatedly and finally did it. Now I'm scared to do another one that needs it.
Read somewhere the original bulbs were in series lose one lose both and voltage to be 6V. I actually measured 10V and had purchased 6v led w resistors already shrinked.
Installed the two yellow leds and display looks exactly like stock. But now I have two odd problems.
1) Scan speed is very slow. Instead of 50 cps I'm getting about 1 cps in civil AC. Hyperscan is apparently only for search mode and the scan speed should be the fixed 50cps.
2) Wx search. Supposed to stop on strongest signal just keeps sweeping never stops, should be getting at least two stations. Manual selection on Indy 162.550 and Muncie 162.425 provides receive just fine. Reset, power removed for over 24 hours, no joy.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Wish I had a DC ammeter like a proper bench should have, it's on the list. Perhaps 12v led instead of 6v will lower the draw, I have one I can try to pull 12v and see what happens.

My 2045 lost lights years back but still does an excellent job. It loses memory about once a year now and must be reprogrammed, it still vacuums in far-off Milair and vhf lowband comms, when propagation allows.
