The PRO-83 received type acceptance from the FCC today as submitted by
Uniden corporation. It has the "Close Call" feature (called "Signal Stalker" for this unit).

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Sure, I'll bite...

Does anyone know MSRP for this unit? Curious as to what it will cost. Might be a fun knockaround scanner for finding those elusive Mall Security freq's.... :D

Plus it is a rather nice looking unit. I think it would make a good starter scanner for someone just getting into scanning.

I wouldn't mind taking advantage of the 30day policy to see how the search works since I imagine this'll be out before the Uniden version. Other than that it has no value to just about anyone unless it's very cheap - still I doubt it.

I picked up one of these units today, and the Signal Stalker feature is indeed pretty cool. Doesn't seem overly sensitive, but it certainly works. I'll have to play with it for a few days and see if it's worth while or not. Surely is a nice compact scanner, and hopefully some PC software appears for it soon.

It seems like a pretty neat little scanner. The lack of PL tones and such is a bummer, but what do you expect from a $120 scanner. I purchased it strictly for the Signal Stalker feature, and if it works well I'll likely trade it in on the BC246 when it hits the market. I'm anxious to take it on the road with me and see how well it works! Has anyone heard of any programming software in the works for this thing? Don Starr, are you listening?? :D

I would be interested in the "Close Call" feature of the scanner too.

Forts - Let us know how you like it after a few days of usage.

I think they (RS) plan on selling it for $59.99 on the day after turkey day sale (one day only)...according to a yahoo group for pro95 scanners anyway.

When the Signal Stalker locks on an active frequency, does the unit merely alert you to the signal's presence or do you actually hear the transmission as well? Thanks for the field testing......Alan

This will be a good scanner for the small town enthusiast and there are a lot of them out there, also an entry level race scanner.

You have 3 alert options... A beep, flashing backlight, or both. Well, 4 options I suppose. You can set alert to 'none' as well. No matter which option you choose, when it finds a transmission the display flashes 'FOUND' and you hear the transmission.

Signal Stalker

Forts,

How is the Signal Stalker function working so far? How is the sensitivity? Keep us informed!

I like it... My main gripe is the fact that when it finds a transmission the display only flashes 'FOUND'... You have to hit any key within a few seconds to have the radio show the frequency. Umm... Since Signal Stalker is all about finding new frequencies, why not show the frequency automatically?? It's annoying, but I can live with it. Some programming software would be nice too... I'm not sure if anyone has anything in the works or not.

I don't see that it is on sale. Am I missing something RS website still says $119. I would really like to have one but have been waiting on the rumored sale.

I do have a Question. Does the Pro-83 only search one band at a time for a new active freq?
