Used to be one of the Deep South states on 44.70 MHz, back in the early 70's they used to come booming into Oklahoma every summer. Don't remember which state and they apparently changed freqs as I haven't heard them in years.
Catch any callsigns? The troop for my area, Pawnee - Troop K (King Troop) is KKC-881.
I was hearing Tennessee HP district 2 yesterday on my bc246t on 42.42 also some fire dept back east on 33.90 not able to identify them. I've also heard CHP from here on occasions
Any unit identifiers? Alpha tags for the troops: Troop A - Adam, Troop B - Baker, etc. There are also speciality units: Ocean is the air units, the various turnpike units are called by their pike names, so you might hear Cimarron-XXX, Turner-XXX, etc. Just curious which troop(s) you were hearing.
E skip can be exciting. Not surprising that 42-44MHz is heard in OH - I made contacts on 6m SSB 50.125 and 50.200 to Ohio, PA, WV, TN and KY last night, and I'm hearing more right now.
You may also hear Indiana State police on 42.42 as that's the statewide base to mobile dispatch freq.
Lowband can be fun. I can hear the CHP and OKHP here in New Mexico on a regular basis, and when the band opens up a bit, Nebraska Highway patrol and Missouri comes rolling in.....best I ever heard out here was I caught the Evansville, Indiana state police post once.
I'm also hearing some fire department on 33.90 sounds real busy somewhere back in the eastern time zone. maybe boston? can't find it in the database yet...
