I got back into scanning a couple years ago after a long absence. I own a SDS 100 and spent about 6 months learning how to program it. I monitor Athens/Hocking Counties in Ohio. 4 towers, Nelsonville (Hocking County) WOUB, Trimble, Peach Ridge (Athens County) I live closest to the Nelsonville tower. Question: do LE agencies change towers sometimes? In the evening I often hear the Athens Police on the Nelsonville tower, but other times they are on WOUB, and I rarely hear them during the day. The same in Hocking County. I hear the Logan Police sometime in the evening on the Nelsonville tower but never hear them in the daytime. There are other towers in Hocking County but I have them on avoid since they are further away. Athens and Logan are about 12 miles from my house. I'm right in between. I have my range set on 30 miles.

I'm guessing you're hearing the various law enforcement agencies on the Nelsonville tower when they make trips to and from the Regional Jail.
No.. I hear the Athens police in Athens but sometimes it’s the Nelsonville tower and other times WOUB Tower. Same with OU police.
It all depends upon where they are. If there are Athens PD radios affiliated with all the towers, when Athen PD talks you'll hear them on all towers. If the PD units are only affiliated with one or two towers (only in a certain part of the county), then you will only hear them on the towers that their radios are affiliated with. That pretty much applies to anyone on the system
Yes. An expanded explanation. When I worked for Athens County EMS and I took my portable radio to Columbus, you would hear everything from the Athens County EMS talk group on the Columbus tower my portable had accessed.
You may also be hearing various agencies at different times on Nelsonville because someone has that talkgroup selected on their radio. Hocking College PD for instance where one of their officers has either of those talkgroups on just to hear radio traffic. They could be PT officers at one of those agencies and listening to their home agency traffic.
