OK, can someone that has better knowledge on this tell me how it is I can only hear half of OHP lowband when I sit here, look out my window and see Troop E's radio tower and headquaters? This has always confused me. How can Troop E hear the trooper tansmission?

Troop E radio info

Howdy the main reason you don't hear the troopers units is that they are talking to Durant on 44.900 Mhz the headquarters talks out to the mobiles on 44.700. I believe they call 44.700 side one & 44.900 as side two. Almost all OHP troops have various relays to cover bad spots. These receivers are listening to 44.900 and relay what they hear back to Durant on a fixed VHF or UHF link. These link freqs can allow you to hear a lot more traffic than just listening to 44.900 if you can pick any of these up.
You may also hear some local car to car traffic on 44.700 when troopers wish to talk to each other. Durant also may have multiple remote 44.700 base transmitters throughout the troop to fill in coverage. The relays in that neck of the woods is ...
Daisy...154.920
Antlers..159.210
Maybe that will help and perhaps someone in that area knows of other mobile relays you could listen to.

I did a search on Troop for ScanTulsa.com awhile back and I came up with OHP freqs for all the counties Troop E covers. I suggest trying all them out for awhile and listen to see if it solves your problem. If not, write back and we will see what else we can find but I am pretty sure these will work. Hope this helps...

correction to earlier post

Channel or side one in the troopers radio transmit on 44.900 and receives
44.700.
Channel or side two in the troopers radio receives and transmit on 44.700 for car to car.
Channel or side three on the troopers radio transmits on 45.180 and receives on 45.22.
Channel or side four on the troopers radio transmits and receives on 45.220 for car to car.
The freqs listed earlier by the other person would be a good start to hear
the units talking to HQ. Hope that helps anyone not familiar with how the non-trunking OHP stuff works.

Maybe its just me then. I have them all in and the only time I can get the units is when they are in the area, none of the distance units.

OK, I think I see your problem now. The OHP lowband units are not (generally) repeated. So, in spite of the fact that the mobiles may be upwards of 100 watts, you still aren't going to hear them unless you are within 5-10 miles of them, when using a conventional antenna system. The OHP uses a system of relays scattered around the state to bring in the mobiles from outlying areas. These relays, along with the antennas at the various district HQs, are on towers a hundred feet high or higher, which is why they can hear a mobile (usually, but not always) when you can't. But just today, I heard one of my area troopers relaying his traffic to Pawnee (Troop K) through the Payne County SO, because Pawnee couldn't hear him direct. This situation is S-L-O-W-L-Y being fixed, as the OHP adds more areas to their 800 MHz trunked system. But money is tight, and it will be a LONG time before it covers the entire state. Check the various threads for the mobile relays and their freqs.

Another thing that may help is to make sure you have no delays set on these freq's.

Good Point! It's the small details like that (no delay) that most (myself included) don't think to pass along.

OHP procedures

This looked like the most likely place to post a question like this...

Does anyone know what it means when one OHP unit asks another one to "Public Service" him? I figure thats another radio set they have, for talking informally or something. What frequencies are involved?

Yeah, I think 10-21 is more of "Victim called and would like you to call them back". A way of telling the trooper that someone called Headquartes to talk with them.

I'm not quite sure about here...i'm still new to the area!

Landline, Public service is the same as 10-21 in Oklahoma and many other places. Some 10 Code list have different structures. 10-36 is not alway for correct time.

In Alabama, 10-36 is for Use of Sirens and lights.

The U.S. Air Force, 10-21 is for Radio Check.

New Orleans PD, 10-36 is Racial Incident.

New Orleans FD, 10-21 is for additional information.

As one travels across the USA, 10 codes can be very confusing if one does not know the codes in the area.

OHP Relay

if im not mistaken on this but

44.700 is base to car and car-car
44.900 car to base by relay

but where im from which is up near the kanas border . vinita (Troop-L) has a relay in bartlesville 155.445 , Claremore 155.460 , Pawnee(troop-K) i know has relay in the pawhuska area but the car uses the bartlesville relay alot . to my knowlege the state wont put up a 800 system in the upper parts of okla . there might be alot of cell towers but there is alot of open country also . 800 signal wont travel that far . thats why the upper part of okla troopers depend on the VHF to run the info they ask for . sometimes i would hear a trooper from way down south near the texas line and that would be a good condition in the atmosphere .

10 codes i remember
10-12 ride along
10-13 wx conditions
10-15 Transport Prisoner
10-21 public service
10-46 out having a break
10-69 any call's holding
10-50 no call's
10-28 run plates
10-29 check for stolen
10-42 check DL
10-43 check for wanted
10-44 check for NCIC,Tripple I
10-6 Busy
10-7 Out of service
10-9 repeat
