• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

OK, here is my dilema........

I cannot track the convos. using just a scanner. I usually pick up a bunch of crap I don't want to hear, Sheriffs Office, Private EMS, etc. I want to just hear Fire/EMS convos. I have, in my possession, 2 LPE-200 EDACS radios. The County Wide system is and EDACS system. Now, how would I go about getting said radio(s) programmed to what I need to hear. I would LIKE to be able to talk, since I am a Firefighter, and would like to have my own radio, but being able to listen is fine. If ANYONE can help me out, contact me ASAP.
If it would help, I live in Brevard County, Fla
Much thanks!

You are going to need to have your radio shop program your radio if you want to talk. The radio needs its own LID. You need to be an authorized person on the If you were to program it on your own and use a wrong LID you could cause problems on the system. Using a scanner should be easy if your system is analog. All you need to do is block all of the talkgroups you do not want to listen to. Or you could set your scanlists with the talkroups you want. Programming the LPE-200s should be easy provided you know the site id's, frequencies in proper LCN, and talkgroups in decimal format.

All right. I am fairly sure the system is digital. Not 100%. I know I am not providing a whole lot of info, but when it comes to radios, all I really know is push here to speak. I appreciate all the help you have given me, whatever else you can provide would be awesome!

Your system according to the database is analog/Aegis digital. You need to make sure your radio is capable of Aegis operation. Then you have to get the software, programing cable, and RIB (ribless programming cables are available). After that you will need the most updated system information.

Brevard County is NOT digital. It's a four site networked regular EDACS system.

If you're a firefighter, you MUST go through the dealer (Communications International, in Rockledge) to get a radio programmed...with authorization from the relevant superiors.

Will they allow you to scan non-fire groups? No idea. If you got the appropriate authorizations, I guess they might.

It's funny...they won't necessarily allow your radio to do what any Uniden trunktracking
scanner will do.

Go through your fire department channels FIRST. CI will not program a radio for you on the county's system unless you've got authorization from a responsible department supervisor.

Approaching CI first without going through fire department channels will be a less than beneficial approach for you, I'm sure.

Documentation will be required, I'll bet. Or at least have your chief make a call to the
radio shop and give verbal authorization.

Be assured they won't do it because you said "the chief said it was ok."

Everyone has to CYA these days, you know?
