Okaloosa County Fire has implemented full radio encryption. While I understand the need for secure communications on the law enforcement side, there’s little justification for hiding fire operations from public monitoring. If adjoining agencies or volunteer departments don’t have access to encrypted channels, they lose hearing what’s going on. That kills coordination. Many fire departments have refused to encrypt primary dispatch for this reason.
