Is anyone receiving an EDACS control channel on 866.5875? I'm picking it up between the two OKC control channels. It sounds like it might be interference somehow due to background noise traffic, but it's so strong that I seriously doubt its an image. Maybe there's a new EDACS system in OKC. No FCC license data on it in OKC though.

rebanding

On another smart note, with all this re-banding stuff, why would the system (which would probably be pretty easy to change now) be in the area to be re-banded? It would be smart to just make all the freqs sub 860, and be done with it. If they wait too long, they will be faced with re-programming LOTS of radios, not just the 200 or so they have active right now.
They can't go to the lower band until our it is time for our zone to reband. Also it does't matter to them how much it costs or how much manpower it takes. Nextel has to pick up the tab.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, they could have the public safety licenses between 855 and 860 now, and not have to re-band at all!

There are SRM business trunked systems from 851-860 currently - perhaps they could just use those freqs. I don't know how it's all going to work. It would be nice if they could "re-program" over the air.

According to public safety rebanding plans all licenses will be dropped 15 mhz. No one has the option of going ahead of time.

There seems to be a whole lot more activity going on the new system. I have been out of town for 3 days, and when I got back, there are LOTS more radios that have affiliated with the system. Perhaps they got the first shipment of radios in. I'm up from ~280 radios (take ~150 off of that number to be about 130 radios used) to 409 tonight (that's about 259 now)(I take those extra off because they were used in the coverage testing, and haven't really been used since - or had a different LID programmed in).

Perhaps we will see some ProVoice activity in the very near future.

OKC using new EDACS!!

Well, I finally heard it today.

An officer on Hefner patrol (Baker 61 - LID is 9982) has an EDACS radio - and is using it as his regular radio. It's transmitting in digital (ProVoice - not encrypted). Yes, it still is patched to analog on the regular channel. Yes, there is a slight delay from analog to digital, and vice versa (dispatch had to question almost everything he said the first time). I'm not sure if it's a handheld or mobile (yet).

Now it's time to go find him and see what type of radio they have!
