Hi all,
Not having much luck in other forums / sections... sooo at the suggestion of another member, perhaps soneone in OKC could help with this?

I'd like to request two fairly high quality audio samples of some ProVoice as heard on a communications receiver (taken from a discriminator output would be perfect)... but there is a catch.

I need one recording to be from group that is KNOWN to be unencrypted digital ProVoice
and

If you can help with one or the other - or both! - I'd be very appreciative.

What I'm trying to do is determine if it is possible to distinguish unencrypted ProVoice from encrypted ProVoice just by ear. FYI it's quite easy to distinguish MA-Com's earlier Aegis encrypted vs. unencrypted - the difference is subtle but easy to pick once you know what to listen for.

The ProVoice samples that live on the 'net already lack any information as to wether they're encrypted or not.

I have been thinking about this off and on since you posted it and I think the unencrypted recording would be easy to get off of any system.

The encrypted transmission from discriminator would be very hard to catch on an active system. In order to catch it, one would have *a* radio setup on each channel recording from the discriminator with some method to time-stamp the recording. An operator would need to be watching UniTrunker whilst it was in operation in order to know what frequency the encrypted transmission was on and at what time it happened in order to get the correct sample.

Seems a bit much my friend.

:)

Perhaps I should have researched where I posted this question a bit better, but not being local makes it hard to find the answers.
I thought that there would be systems where the vast majority of transmissions would have been encrypted, and others where the vast majority would be unencrypted - thus making it pretty easy to just pinch a sample and send off. But it looks like the OKC system is a real mix of the two. That would be a hard ask, wouldn't it?

Nah. I can give two samples now. The problem with the two samples I have is (a) they were recorded from different radios and (b) at different sample rates and (c) taken from different systems (located in different counties no less). Of course they will sound "different" - due to how they were recorded rather than due to the digital content.

I'll try to steal some time tonight and upload these two samples. Anyone else is more than welcome to contribute any samples - encrypted or not.
