I will be going on a trip from fairly close to Springfield, Mo to Temple/Belton, Tx.

I will be travelling through Oklahoma.
Looks like I will be Travelling on I44 (Will Rogers Tpke) to Big Cabin.
Then 69 South to the Texas border.

I will be taking my Pro 96 and BCD 396t.

It looks like
County/Troop
Ottawa L
Craig L
Mayes L
Wagoner C
Muskogee C
Mc Intosh C
Pittsburg D
Atoka E
Bryan E

Database Says
C Primary TRS
D All LB
E All LB
L All LB

How 'good/strong' is Low Band Coverage, is it going to be worth it to program those in my Scanner(s). I will be renting a car, so I wont have any external antennas..

Lowband traffic will be light on the will rogers without an external. When you do hear the Tropper talking, he's close so keep your eyes open.

stop in Krebs and eat at Pete's. next to McAlester. That is going to be a long drive on 2 lanes, I take back roads to McAlester from Norman, the good thing about back roads is you get to see the state and not steel and concrete. I think you'll get OHP on low band and run vhf high, that will get you all the local PD. when I run back roads I put my pro-95 in search mode and run low to high.

last year around thanksgiving we went to Texas with my parents.
I don't remember where it was but at one of the exits (most likely on the Tpk) there were like 20 HP Cars within 3 Exits lined up at the on ramps.

I did not have OHP programmed in my scanner at that time.

Yeah OHP is still pretty active on VHF Low and High Band in McAlester, and i can vouch for Petes place, it's worth the drive over there.

I agree, be sure to program 44.7 /45.220!
Alot of air to car, and car to car, statewide on these freq. Plus you will be able to hear Troop K base also among others (refer to data base). Some troops use 45.220.
The input to 44.7 is 44.9...HAVE FUN

Make sure to put in the VHF and UHF lowband mobile relays. There is usually about one per county. These will help your coverage for the mobiles since they are at higher antenna positions. There is a good one in the Rogers County area and the one in the Delaware Co area is good, too. These two cover Mayes county and the surrounding areas well on a handheld. I listen to them when I am in the area, especially the Rogers Co. Mayes Co has a new TRS site in the city of Pryor that is going up soon. Might be up when you are there. As far as the Bryan Co area there is a good deal of OHP traffic on the relays near Durant (Love Co, Marshall Co, and Atoka Co) and they have decent coverage as well.

What green leafy substance have you been smoking? I think it's more like one for every three counties. Especially in the big black hole around Muskogee.

I think all the relays along the Will Rogers and 69 will be VHF north of McAlester. South of McAlester, it goes to UHF relays. I think.

Also, the Troop HQs broadcast in both VHF low and VHF high so make sure you get both of those in.

Lastly, turn off delay for all OHP low band traffic.
