This didn't have anything to do with all of the storms that came through our area last night did it?

Fred was doing it until he accepted his new job. I thought I had heard that they had someone new, but I guess they don't.

Nope, I talked to Fred a few days ago, he said that Okmulgee EM is in a state of limbo until a new director can be found. Gary was doing it but he resigned. As far as I know it's a volunteer position. I'm sure that doesn't help anything. Hopefully they'll find something soon.

Okmulgee County seeks Emergency Mangement Director. Applicant will have a Bachelors degree in Public Safety or related field, 3 years progressive management experience in a related field or a combination of experience and education that demonstrates knowledge and skill in emergency management and communications. The successful candidate will coordinate and direct the planning, organization, control and implementation of local emergency management activities for Okmulgee County and the surrounding communities. Thsi position will work with local, state and federal agencies to secure grants and other funding. Applicant must possess strong leadership capabilities and excellent organizational skills.

With these qualifications I doubt it is a volunteer position.

But you don't know. One also has to consider the financial position of the county. Look at the roads, lack of manpower, and of course, the fact that they have never had a paid EM position before. I also find those qualifications a little strange for Okmulgee County. How many people on the Sheriff's Office or the County Commission even meet those requirements? Hmmm.

The Okmulgee Board of County Commissioners welcomed Dan Ivins as the new Okmulgee County Emergency Management Director, during the regular Monday morning meeting . Ivins will work under the auspices of the Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority.

Ivins has retired from the Air Force after a 20+ year career as a firefighter. Ivins and his family are re-locating to Okmulgee from Tucson, Arizona, where he has been stationed for the last nine years.

I wonder if that is someone from the board? Never know.
