• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Swap those antennas out for a Wilson 1000M mag mount, it far outperforms the littl wil or any whip.
In the last 35-ish years of being in 10/11 meter I've never had anything that beat a 102" whip. Including an A99 up 50 feet. I hear stations on the 102 that the A99 was completely deaf to.

I did however recently order a Sirio GPS 27 1/2 wave all aluminum 18'.8" base antenna. Had great reviews. Will arrive this week. I'll report back once it's installed.

I just unearthed a Wilson 5000 with 24" mast I had on my truck. Seems better than the 102" whips. By quite a lot.
(Spring cleaning, I got stuff I forgot I had)
I still use a K40 with the big-ass mag base that barely stays stuck to the new truck bodies. Thank god the antenna in itself doesn't have much windage.

First impressions. Nice build quality. Cheap ($78). Light (5lbs). Easy to set up. Noise floor sits around 1-3 S-units. SWR is 1.2 across all 40. No issue shooting skip or talking locally. This morning i was yakking away on 28 AM all across the country. So far so good.

To the left is my GMRS repeater antenna at 50 feet, the Sirio to the right is at 40 feet.

How close are the trees? My house is in the middle of a grove of trees and my antenna has survived for many years.

Within a foot or 2. You can see where I cleared some away. I need to get back on the roof with my pole saw to clear the higher branches yet.
I too need to do the same thing. I really want to down this tree and put my tower up but I have a few other irons in the fire at this time.

Not sure what you mean exactly, but for reference I see no noticable difference in TX or RX between the Sirio base antenna vs the little wil or the 102 mag mount slapped on my garage roof. Noise floor is similar, swr is similar, etc. I still talk to my Canadian friends (455 and 225) regularly. It doesn't seem to matter what antenna I use. They hear me like a local and I hear them like a local. The good news is it didn't degrade performance like my A99 did.

I was joking. That report is impressive.
Is that roof sloped?
