Is it possible for a scanner like the Beartracker series (BCT-2, 7, and 8) or the BC350/355N to have their service searches "re-programmed?"

And when I say re-programmed, I mean changing the pre-programmed search limits and NOT the user-programmable bank where the user can enter their own frequencies. I was thinking of getting a BC355N to put under my car seat for CB CH19 receive. I don't have any need for the pre-programmed VHF public safety search and thought it would be nice if that search limit could somehow be changed to 160-161 for AAR railroad channels.

Or are the search limits embedded in throwaway-type ICs that don't have a the ability to be changed?

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm still curious.

Unless you can find a 355N USED and CHEAP I wouldn’t get one! PITA scanner and when I tried to use it mobile horribly effected by ignition noise! You could program all the AAR channels in the Private bank, but with no keypad programming is unwieldy! Heck a pawn shop CB can be had for $10 to put under the seat then an oldie but goodie portable scanner for AAR…all the rail fans I see like to be able to grab it n get out of the car! I’m not usually negative but the 355N was a Goodwill find for $5, which is about its value IMO!!!

While I appreciate the reply, my post wasn't really to ask for opinions on this particular scanner. I already have a dual band Kenwood mobile in the car for my main radio...plus, I already have a VHF handheld for use outside -- as well as a CB that I've been considering using for receive only. I just wanted to know if these scanners can be modified.
