After a very long two decade hiatus from scanning, I'm getting back into it. Obviously, my two old analog Icom R-7000 units are woefully out of date for the digital trunking systems in use.

I used to do research and buy from Universal Radio which had an excellent listing of new makes/models on one page and an excellent reference page of discontinued makes/models. Like this: VHF UHF Receiver and Scanner Discontinued Radios

I always thought Universal had the best site for comparison shopping for new and historical research if buying used.

Universal has gone into retirement this year, so it's no longer an option.

Compared to the defunct Universal, what online store is everyone using now to easily identify and compare the different makes/models of scanners?

Thanks de AE7VA

With the supply chain hot and cold sometimes you have to jump when you can find what you are looking for.

If you find something somewhere make sure to do a forum and google search on the company.

Another great source is Scannermaster: Police Scanners, Radios, Programming, Accessories | Scannermaster.com All things being equal, they are my preferred source. The only time I've strayed is if they are out of an item and I can get it elsewhere.

Generally speaking, the prices are very comparable. About the only break you get sometimes is free shipping.

As alluded to above, supply and demand dictate price points. When demand is high and supply low, few breaks are found.

Another postive vote for www.scannermaster.com

There is excellent customer service, and if you ever have a question, their people are the most knowledgeable in the industry. You can call and ask questions before you make a purchase, and there's also excellent support after the sale. My exclusive source for anything scanning or monitoring related.

Stick with an established dealer and not an individual. You'll want someone to stand behind the deal.

My suggestion is to go to the RR database and check out your county, and what is available to still monitor. Then decide on what you want to spend on a scanner.

You may want to ask a moderator to move this thread to the Arizona state forum for better answers. (y) Click on the word report on the bottom left of your post.

Scannermaster seems to have issues keeping inventory in stock. HRO is a great source for Uniden and accessories.

My previous online scanner store buying I have bought from Scanner Master only one time though the service was nice and friendly. The other scanner store I bought from is Ham Radio Outlet in Doraville, GA the guys and ladies there were helpful, friendly with no issues.

I've done business with all the dealers mentioned here and highly recommend all of them! Regarding prices, Uniden and Whistler as well as most other radio products today are price fixed. Sometimes you $10 or so off and maybe free shipping.

The most important thing to consider is service before and after the sale. Make sure they have a fair return policy and knowledgeable staff.
