Hello, I am new to OP25 and looking for a little help or direction. I would like to use OP25 to monitor 453.600 frequency. I have tried researching but I can only find items in reference to trunking. The frequency I am trying to monitor is a dispatch frequency that is used to send tones out. Can anyone help with the setup or maybe a better option? I need it to be able to auto-start after a power failure.

Thanks
Steve

Why do you want to use OP25 to monitor a conventional analog channel?

Yea, I was gonna say. For listening to just a single conventional frequency, there's easier options. For auto-start after a power failure, I would just go with a plain old scanner. What mode, digital or analog?

The Boatbod version of op25 (multi_rx.py) supports single channel conventional P25 as well as analog (FM) reception and whereby the entire
process can be run as a system service on a headless device such as a Raspberry Pi. The squelch functionality is somewhat limited by due to the
underlying GNU Radio squelch blocks that examine signal level as opposed to being noise operated.

However, the squelch works well enough if you’re monitoring something like the output of a repeater or a base station that provides a more or less constant RF signal level. I have had excellent results using op25's multi_rx.py for these types of applications to include a feed of NOAA Weather Radio to BCFY.

So, yes, it can be done with op25 where signals levels remain fairly constant in signal strength and you don't require PL/DPL squelch.

While I know it can be technically accomplished with OP25 Boatbod, I was asking why the op wanted to use OP25 when there are simpler / easier to implement solutions. Perhaps he wants to use a Raspi? Even they GQRX would work fine - are there any other simple solutions?
