I got both the Osmocom and Boatbod versions running successfully on separate virtual machines. But only with an rtl-sdr dongle.

There is a setup guide in the RR Wiki which helped me getting everything running. In this wiki, it says that to use an Airspy, you have to edit the .vmx file with this line added to the bottom:

usb.quirks.device0 = "0x1d50:0x60a1 skip-reset, skip-refresh, skip-setconfig"

I did this, and the virtual machine wouldn't run, instead I got an error that the .vmx file was corrupted. I removed the line and then everything launched normally.

I know the guy who wrote this guide is here on this group, can't remember who he is, but is there a fix? Maybe the issue is that the guide is a couple of years old and the line may not work with newer versions of VMWare.
What happens if you try to use the airspy without that usb.quirks sequence?
Perhaps you might consider trying Virtualbox instead of VMWare. My airspys work fine in that environment.

One Airspy isn't seen by OP25, my other Airspy throws an "Unknown Error" message.

I have used Virtualbox in the past, but I got rid of it after it caused problems on my Windows host machine.

Just my 2 cents. Why run in VMware at all?

If you have an old PC or laptop just run Ubuntu natively, you can even make a machine dual boot. My personal laptop is dual boot, 98% of the time I use Ubuntu and only ever use Windows when necessary (like tax time). Windows 11 gives not one dam about your privacy. Installing windows 11 you have to do 1000 tweaks to get it to even begin to work like it doesn't own you and your data.

If you do want to do dual boot or only have one machine, install windows first then Ubuntu, Ubuntu knows what and how to do it on the same drive or if you can, add a second drive and your done.

I have in the past run a dual boot system with Windows and Ubuntu, and also Linux Mint. I also have Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi. I am so accustomed to Windows that it makes Linux difficult and a pain to use for me. I know more practice and research would help me in time. I just chose to go the VMWare route this time.

The main thing I find with Linux when you want to do something or fix something. You just use your favorite search engine and look up issue. Then 9 time out of 10 you find the command that you copy and paste into the terminal windows, just like when you install OP25.

Out of the box windows 11 is sending all your keystrokes back to MS, think inking. Be sure to turn that off. And sorry did not mean to hijack your thread.

Perhaps you should revisit VirtualBox again. I've been using it on several Windows hosts for years going all the way back to Windows-7
and have never had it cause an issue to the Windows OS.

I'm the guy and you can download the original .pdf guide here, which will be better than the Wiki (that was never completed): OP25 - OP25 Windows 10 Basic Setup Guide .

However, it's almost 3 years old and might no longer work with current versions. On a more recent fresh install, I ended up having to switch to VirtualBox to get it working. Take a look at the following thread, especially the very helpful posts from @wgbecks about getting it working on Virtual Box: OP25 - Trying To Update OP25 Osmocom Version .

Glad you came along! I was able to get everything working with the help of the Wiki guide, except for one thing: The guide mentions adding a line to the end of the .vmx file in order to get OP25 to work with an airspy. When I added that line, the VM won't launch; a message says the file is corrupt. When I remove the line, it starts normally (with an rtl, not Airspy)

I will assume for now that it may be due to, as you said, the guide being too old for the current versions of OP25 and VMWare.

I'm trying to run the Boatbod version with the GUI. When I add " -l "http:0.0.0.0:8080" to the command, the terminal opens and I hear voice. But when I open the web browser, I see "Error 404 file not found". It works normally without the GUI when I remove the web address from the command line. And yes, I opened the web browser with "http://127.0.0.1:8080"

Try using the machine's real ip address instead of loopback.
