No, only Bell Mobility Radio and the OPP would know the exact answer to that question. Ask a cop on the street or anyone else and you'll get an uneducated guess.

Not to mention, the system has proven itself in the old Zone 1.
I am hearing a lot of gripes about coverage though, but some of this could be operator error too. I've been on a couple calls with EMS where they needed us to relay info to CACC because they couldn't get thru on their portables (although I really wonder if they forgot to turn the VR on).

Can CACC turn on the mobile repeater for the crew? Or can CACC tell if the VR has been activated?

They can turn on the VR remotely so I'm betting it's just a training issue.

Yes and yes. The crew can also turn on the DVRS remotely as well.

Another issue I have seen with the EMS DVRS is they all like to use the same DVRS channel. Locally everyone is on DVRS DVR2. If there are multiple calls I bet the channel is useless. Eventually they may figure that if one crew is on DVRS DVR1 then another should be on DVRS DVR2. Maybe tie the DVRS channel to the unit alias IE 1000 = DRV1, 1001 = DVR2 .. 1004 = DVR5 and then repeat for 1006-1009.

In this scenario the bus was right outside of a residence, so there shouldn't have been any reason why their portables would have been out of range (which makes me think the VR wasn't on). There was only a single crew of 2 medics working a VSA so I don't think remembering how to remotely activate it was high on their minds at that time either. With the old system they mostly just left the VR on all the time so I'm sure that'll be a learning curve to break out of that habit.

The DVRS would have the status mode displayed. A radio check with CACC from the EMS portables should be done every so often until things are learned and worked out.
There will always be different scenarios with buildings like Faraday cages degrading signal strength and dead zones yet no covered by the LMRN system that are unfortunately going to happen. It's the constant feedback to the service provider that is necessary to achieve a somewhat adequate system

All things considered the rollout and switch to LMRN has gone pretty well. There has been a lot of hard work done in the background by a lot of people to achieve this. Their work should be acknowledged and appreciated even though the system is encrypted LOL.
