Yes it is correct. They do have AWIN radios too but no TGIDs have been confirmed as of this time. They do have encryption that is sometimes used on their SO dispatch channel.

Still wondering on this tone

Thanks for confirming. The reason I was asking was sometimes when things are slow I scan the vhf ps range and the frequency of 154.665 tone DPL023 was quite active with police talk. Could not figure out any known locations they were referencing too. When I searched the range of 154.660-154.680 I got Ar transportation and Quachita Co with 154.672 and was thinking it might be the Quachita Co Sheriff. Anyone know who this might be? The signal was half decent but it was at night time. For some reason signals you can't hear during the day come in great at night.

NAC stuff

What exactly are P25 channels? Trunked VHF?

I don't think that it would be trunked because their would prolly be more frequencies involved. I think that if you plug it into your scanner as conventional it would only work if the scanner was capable of monitoring digital P-25 channels. Most digital scanners can't decode NAC codes so you wouldn't see a tone without using some trunking software on the scanner using the discriminator output. If their were two users on that frequency you would have to listen to both sides unless the scanner had NAC decoding then you could lock that particular group that uses that NAC code. For example the freq of 154.310 has two different users. One would be EMS ambulances ops NAC code 143 while the local hospital uses the NAC 145. So if you didn't have NAC decoding you would hear ambulance calls on one while someone on the other NAC code calls the janitor to clean up the hall after someone spilled something.

I'm thinking that maybe one or two newer model scanners out might have NAC decoding built in but not sure, just guessing. I heard that the newest model BCD396XLT scanner about to come out next year has this feature built in. Around Arkansas very few agencies use this yet but if you traveled to California you might have to have NAC decoding built in your scanner. Check out this page to see agencies using NAC codes. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=201

P25 is a digital modulation. It has nothing to do with Trunked. P25 can be on VHF or Trunked systems.

Check out these links:

As far as Ouachita Co is concerned. I don't think they are using VHF P25. I know they have some AWIN radios and use AWIN at times. I also know that they can go "encrypted" if need be on their normal VHF channel. If I remember right, they'll say go to "charlie" which means simply push the button on the radio that makes it encrypted. It is a very simple encryption at that.

What threw me off is that in the database the SO frequency has a NAC 141 code and the Mode P-25. So if they are still using non-digital conventional channels would anyone have the DPL or PL code they use?
