Hello! I am looking to gift myself a Whistler WS1065 this year, and plan to do an outdoor setup. I live in the Poconos Region of Pennsylvania, and I am looking to receive Morris County New Jersey's Motorola Smartzone Omnilink System for Public Safety... It's a P25 Phase 1 system, so it should be able to be recieved... Thoughts? Here is a link to the Antenna I would be looking at... https://www.amazon.com/Sirio-Antenn...ocphy=1024821&hvtargid=pla-314802460728&psc=1

Fortunately, GA
Unless you are on top of one of the mountains with a clear view to the southeast, you are too far away to receive Morris county. Especially with a discone antenna.

Line of sight is very important to receiving a 800 MHz signal. Physics tells us that that signal will be seriously degraded because of the distance to where you live.

Maybe someone is streaming Morris county.

Original poster, the Poconos is a very large area so specifically where are you? Also not sure exactly what you are looking to listen to but are you talking about the old 800 MHz New Jersey State Police type ll smartzone system? Are you also talking about the Morris County Phase 1 simulcast system that uses LSM? There is one site that you would be able to manipulate in your radio with many antenna locations which you can see here. The other image that has the circle is the coverage area for the Morris County system and I don't think you fall within it. I have included Mount Pocono in both images for reference.

A couple of factors to keep in mind, the New Jersey State Police 800 MHz system is going to be phased out in mid 2022 and they will completely switch to the existing NJICS which is a phase 2 system that your twice rebranded almost 15 year old radio will not receive.

The Morris County system is simulcast, it has one simulcast site that you can manipulate in your radio and then transmits from various towers as you can see on the map above. Your radio cannot handle simulcast however, if you use a yagi or directional beam antenna you may be able to focus on one of those transmitting sites, a simulcast system is where all the antennas transmit the same exact thing that your radio is calling for so if you are in the middle of the system you get simulcast distortion because you can't pick and choose and turn on and off transmitting Towers.

If you're only listening to One Tower using a directional antenna you might get away with it depending on the topography between you and the antenna and how high you are.

I'm only going by what I can see in the information on radio reference.

Thank you so much for the responses... I am looking to receive the Morris County Phase 1 Simulcast system, which is UHF... As for the exact location, Stroudsburg. As for the Topography of it, I can see out to the Delaware Water Gap. Unfortunately the site for Morris County is behind the Appalachian Mtns. Unfortunately, it seems as if monitoring is becoming almost impossible, as the local agencies should be fully encrypted by 2022. Thank you so much, but this seems like a distant thing, they although may be possible, not probable.
