• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

P25 Paging Implementation

I'm seeking any system admin that has made the transition from Analog Two-Tone Paging to P25 Paging using either Two-Tone OR Group ID Paging. We are currently looking at this switch and will soon begin discussing this with our external partners. I know Two-Tone P25 Paging alters the Hz for each tone and potentially limits the amount of usable tones. My feeling is Group ID paging is the better and quicker option as we currently have anywhere from 15-30 seconds worth of paging tones being activated on higher acuity calls. This would be implemented using Unication G4/5 Pagers, Harris Radios, and on the back end, ZetronMax Dispatch being controlled through Central Square One Solution CAD Interface.

We’ve been doing this for about 6 years now. We have no issues with two-tone on the G5. There was one set of tones in our tone plan that we did have to change but that was it. The TGID method was way too clunky for us operationally. The only difference is that we do fine activation from our Symphony consoles rather than using a Zetron from CAD.

FWIW L3 allegedly will have two tone alerting over P25 trunking around the first of the year.

Are you talking about in the subscribers? The Harris P25 system here has been doing 2-tone paging for years over it. The Motorola subscribers and Unication pagers all work great on it as long as you have a good tone plan.

Yes, I am referring to the subscribers, I was informed that the XL series currently doesn't support two tone decode over p25 trunking but it would by the first of next year? I know that Unication, Moto, and EFJ currently support it.

Is that caused by the A to D conversion? Our county is in the process of testing from VHF analog to P-25, have not heard any complaints.
I know a county that implemented qcii over p25 trunking with moto and they had trouble with a couple specific tones. I am looking for somebody to confirm they have XL series portables unmuting via two-tone decode on a phase 1 or 2 system specifically.

This was briefly discussed at the Users Group meeting in Ocean City, MD a couple weeks ago. Per the XL product line manager this is not something currently in development

That is fantastic news, because we were told otherwise...
