I just got a email from GRE saying there's a beta firmware update out now to enable P25 Phase 2 on the PSR800.

GRE PSR-800 P25 Phase 2 Public Beta Upgrade - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite

it states:

CPU Beta Firmware version U1.7 Release Notes

• This experimental beta CPU software adds APCO Project 25 Phase 2 functionality to
the PSR-800 and must only be used in conjunction with the companion beta DSP
version U1.2 included in this upgrade.

• When this version is installed, the uP Appl Ver line on the version screen (accessed
by pressing menu when the welcome message is displayed after a power up) will
show as version 1.7.

• Project 25 Phase II, 4 slot TDMA voice is not supported.

• Radio IDs, on Phase 2 voice channels, will not be displayed – unless they came from
the CC before tuning to the voice channel. Radio IDs are not decoded from the voice
channel data.

• Priority talkgroups are not supported when tuned to Phase 2 voice channels.
• Don't use "custom tables" for Phase 2 systems unless you really know what you're
doing (let the scanner handle tables)

• When a Phase 2 talkgroup is active, the scanner will display “D2” instead of “DG”.

DSP Beta Firmware version U1.2 Release Notes

• This experimental beta DSP software adds APCO Project 25 Phase 2 functionality to
the PSR-800 and must only be used in conjunction with the companion beta CPU
version U1.7 included in this upgrade.

EZ Scan DG PC Application Beta version 1.07 Release Notes

• Added options to the custom trunking tables to support Phase 2 operation. Unless
you really know what you are doing, we recommend using the automatic option.

Just finished installing the CPU firmware/DSP/Software update and all went well. No problems.

Now we need some live test reports from those that have an active Phase II system in their area.

I hope they will relsase one for the pro 18

I heard that the Pro-18 didn't support X2 TDMA. That would mean the new firmware for Phase II wouldn't help as the hardware doesn't exist for TDMA decoding.

For some reason the tables didn't auto-fill, once I manually edited them it seems to work well on Phase 2 TDMA.

So it has been officially confirmed, there is a scanner on the market with Phase II TDMA decoding ability? I guess the wait wasn't too bad.

I hope GRE makes this available for the Pro 106/197....

The Pro-106/197 do not have the HARDWARE to support Phase II.
So, there is NO way a firmware update would enable that.

Also, I am SO excited that we finally have this capability!

Sincerely,
Gr8rcall

P.S. CAN A MOD STICKY THIS THREAD?

It would be interesting to see a CCDump log file from the system, to see why the tables didn't auto-fill from the control channel.

Should I post it here or open a ticket with GRE? I know the system broadcasts them.

I set the "Site Options" to "Auto Fill" and the tables automagically load, when set to "Standard" they don't seem to load. I'm pretty sure I had to do the same thing to get X2 to work also. I may load a test system for X2 and leave it at "Standard" and see what happens.

Here would be good. You'll probably have to rename to .TXT. Also, make sure it's in the auto-fill mode for all sites in the system.

I was typing when you replied, "Auto Fill" was the secret.

Yes this is true as the 800 is the only GRE model i know that implemented the tdma technology, that is, unless the 900 will have more, which is a GREAT possibility since the 800 now has the ability. Hmmmmm.........I wonder..............
