I wonder if they're actually getting their own system, or just updating radios and subscribing/expanding the county system? Or both, running their own independent solution but can affiliate with the county as needed. The county system is extremely capable, but there are some weird politics/pride/something with the towns/cities within. Chico is doing their own thing as well. I hope Paradise invests to at least affiliate with the county system as needed.

For a county that has gone through 2008 lightning fires, 2017 Oroville Dam, 2018 Camp Fire, 2020 North Complex Fire and 2021 Dixie Fire, all of which caused massive multi-agency coordination and population evacuation displacement, I'm shocked there is still such a cowboy mentality in some of those agencies. All hat, no brain. Heaven forbid they don't coordinate encryption keys between each other. There's some good folk in the county that have a passion for RF and Interoperability, hopefully they'll prevail.

To me it sounded like they were going to be on the Butte county system, P25, with their own TG(s). I don't think those in charge really understand the consequences of managing encryption and/or inter-operability (channels) in a true emergency (such as 9/11 style).

They are Dispatched by BCSO. So it’s safe to assume they will be on the BRICS system.
Temporarily they’ve been, but considering the neighboring municipalities it wouldn’t be a safe assumption. However reading between the lines with the press release, and some word on the street, I agree it sounds like they’ll stay on BRICS. That’s a great win for Paradise. It has and will continue to serve them well.

As for encryption and interop, Butte County itself has it together. I’ve had the pleasure working with those guys on the Dam, Camp, and North incidents and they have the exact attitude needed to continue making interop thrive, and are helping support the efforts to coordinate CKR and keys in the region and north state. If I recall, the county has two fixed gateways north and south, as well as a portable one. They also have immediate access to the Sutter gateway if needed. My comments earlier were more concerning the local municipalities and whether they’d “share” or silo up.

Wow my friend you must have friends with BRICS. not a lot of people know the infrastructure like that. I have seen the portable Gatway is pretty cool. And yes they our trying to get all the Valley CKRs all coordinated correctly.

There are places like this all over the country. Towns and cities that refuse to get along on a common system that would drastically improve communication between the county and local agencies. It's always almost just one person within the city wants to keep themselves relevant.

Ya but this one will probably play ball with BCSO.
