Hi Uniden,

Just wondering if it would be possible to incorporate a partial talkgroup wildcard option in future firmware releases for the HP, P2 and maybe even XT series scanners?

Many of us monitor systems with agencies that may utilize a hundred or more talkgroups in one block.
Instead of entering individual talkgroup alias's, it would be nice (in some cases) to simply enter a generic agency name for the entire block of talkgroups.

For example, an agency, with talkgroups in the range of dec 21000-21999 could be entered simply as 21xxx, with an appropriate agency name allocated to that entire range of talkgroups.

Or an agency with talkgroups ranging from 10300-10399 could be entered as 103xx.

Obviously, this relies on the system being set up with sequential agency numbering, but this does occur in all the systems I monitor.

It may not suit all systems or system configurations but I think it would be a useful function to add.

In the case of the XT series scanners, it would be a useful way to get around the talkgroup limitations.

Cheers,
B

I agree with you, as most systems "attempt" to keep agencies or departments in sequential sub-ranges, though many end up not so squared away after years of radio maintenance, etc.

However, I suggest Uniden would rather you get around the talkgroup limitation on the XT radios by buying a new one.

At this point in the XT life cycle, where they have discontinued production, I doubt you will see this as an XT enhancement.

I don't believe that the 396XT has been discontinued.

It makes sense that the 996XT would have been discontinued in favor of the 996P2, but the 396xt still has its own merits that set it aside from all other current products and despite various newer models hitting the market, the 396XT still sells well in various markets.

On a similar note, there's a new local system(in Unden's HQ's backyard), that is putting up a new Harris P25 system, and they do some funky patches in the 64000+ range. I wonder if it would be possible to lock those out, or display some more information on what other talkgroups they might be patching. I do not understand what they're doing, and if it's definitely patching. However, it would be nice to be able to treat a range of talkgroups differently at times.
