As it did for others here, Frank’s passing came as a great shock. I never met him but I felt that I did know him somewhat from the many years of help and information he provided to me in this forum and elsewhere. I always looked forward to seeing a new post from ‘SCANdal’. He never ceased to amaze me with the depth of his knowledge. It was like none other that I have ever seen and probably never will again. When you asked a question he would often provide more information than what was asked. He went far beyond simply providing frequency and tone info. He had tremendous knowledge of the organizational makeup of the various public service agencies that we monitor. In fact many times it was like talking to an “insider” of a particular agency in question. I often wondered how one person could have such inside knowledge of so many different agencies. Many times when a thread started to go awry you would know that it would not be long before ‘SCANdal’ would jump in and set things straight. At times he would be straightforward. Other times he might use a little sarcasm and humor. I liked how he would sometimes use the post heading to make a separate point. I also liked how he would use the formal names of the various units, divisions, bureaus, etc. of the agencies, again providing an education with his post. I think he viewed the postings on these boards as somewhat of a reference library. I have noticed that he would sometimes edit a post that was months old if the information had changed so the record would be accurate. He obviously not only enjoyed the hobby but also enjoyed sharing his knowledge. One can just go to the list of his posts on this board to see that. I hope they remain for a long time to come. Also, some may not know that Frank wrote a column for Scanner Digest. Whereas he used ‘SCANdal’ on the boards, he wrote the columns under his own name. These can be found at ISSUES 22-53
His contributions started with Issue #34.

I know that his interest and knowledge of public safety and radio was just one aspect of this man. I know that to his family and friends he was much more. To them I express my sincere condolences and hope that there is some comfort in knowing that his contributions here were so appreciated and he will be missed by so many. I pray that he is in a greater place now ‘monitoring’ us all. May God bless him and those close to him.

I was so sorry to hear of Scandal's passing. He was a great source of information and was able to help me through the years. He even went so far as to add the Encon frequencies to his scanner upon my request. This hobby has lost a great man. Those of us who serve in public service will forever be in his debt and he will be in our thoughts and prayers

Take care.....

I remember first meeting SCANdal on Jim Fordyce's board....I thought there wasn't anything he didn't know about the hobby. Always a great guy, and always willing to answer questions. God Bless and farewell.
