Folks, since most of the people on this forum are hams as well as scanner listeners, I wanted to let the group know that Wally Burkett W4KXV of Virginia Beach passed away this Tuesday. I returned home from the funeral this afternoon.
For those in the Tidewater area, you may have known Wally or at least ran into him once or twice at an event or club meeting. He was also the prime care taker of the VBARC repeaters: 146.970, 146.895 and 442.650. He founded VBEARS to fund those repeaters. He worked for Tidewater Communications (Motorola) for 50 years and retired earlier this year.
I had the pleasure of knowing him since the time I was a little kid just getting started in amateur radio to the chance of working with him at Tidewater Comm. for two years. He was an amateur's amateur and a hell of a nice, generous guy and I will miss him very much. My prayers are with his family.
The amateur radio world has lost a good man. God bless and godspeed old friend!
