Occasionally, when I go to my Radio Reference bookmarked page my Windows 7 64 bit PC using Firefox and IE9 will not load the Radio Reference page, or loads it after 30-60 seconds.. I can use my iPhone and home wi fi and the page quickly loads. (Not cached pages) My ISP is Road Runner and the PC connects to the internet via Ethernet cable on a Netgear wireless N router. The iPhone is using wi fi signal from the same router. Another situation involves eBay, where the countdown timer won't work on the PC and works on the iPhone. Any ideas what's going on in these situations? Flash? Java?

Windows Update

Apparently a Windows Update today is causing my issue. I did a system restore to yesterday and appear to have solved the issue.

I agree. Today's not Tuesday! I'm pretty sure I saw an update listed for today before I did the restore. At any rate, it's working now. Thanks for the replies.

Hamstang,
I've had the same problem all day just on the forums page.
I had the update showing for a couple of days and completed last night.
Today, mt browser (chrome) hangs and never loads.
Wish I knew how to do a restore with XP or why a windows update would cause an issue with only 1 particular web page.
Been using the IPad all day to access.
Any other solutions?

David I concur with it being the forum section only. It worked fine on my Vista PC, but not on this 64 bit W7 PC until I rolled it back a day. Don't know the answer..........

+1 for 64 bit Win 7 and FF. Had trouble loading the forums all day, no issues with live audio or the database.

What antivirus are you guys using? I know AVG has caused FF and IE to fail to load pages for me in the past after Windows updates, but that was on XP not 7.

I'm using MS Security Essentials. I disabled it while not being able to load the forum page, but it made no difference.

Hmm weird, I'm running the same basic setup. IE9(32bit), WIN7 64bit and MSE.

Here's the reason for the out of schedule update.... In my former life, I hated second Tuesdays almost as much as the week leading up to it..(Microsoft actually publishes a summary previous to the release of the patches to it's corporate customers, which then leads to much wailing and gnashing of teeth if you've got a large user base/large software base to evaluate).

Windows Vista 64-bit with Firefox 6.0.2 and AVG here. No problems loading anything on radioreference.com.

Now, I just came across something that may be related or not. I turned on my netbook to use it and the TrustedInstaller.exe just ate up almost 200MB or RAM and stayed at around 40% CPU time. I could hardly do ANYTHING on it.

I was on-site at a customer site and the only thing I was trying to accomplish was to install the TFTP Client. Gave up and just downloaded one from the Internet.

When I got home, I plugged it up and let it go until it felt like finishing whatever it was trying to do.

Asus EEE netbook 1000H, Vista 32-bit.

You may have a DNS problem (used to determine the IP address of a website such as this one). Have you tried running a "ping" on www.radioreference.com? You can do so by taking the following steps:
1. Open a command prompt (start, run, type CMD, click ok).
2. Type in "ping www.radioreference.com" (without quotes) and press enter.
3. Do you get any replies back?

If you get the message "unable to locate host" you are most likely having problems with your DNS resolving the IP address for the host (assuming your can access other websites). DNS records are cached for a certain period of time (known as TTL) after you access a website for the first time. The first thing you can try is flushing the DNS cache on your computer:

1. Open a command prompt again if you don't already have one open.
2. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotes) and press enter.
3. Try running a ping again on www.radioreference.com

Even though your computer and phone are connected to the same network, each device could be using a different DNS server. If both devices are using the same problematic DNS server one device may still access a website with cached information.

A few years back I was having problems when first accessing a website. The issue ended up being a problem with Comcast's DNS servers so I ended up switching to OpenDNS.

Be sure to make note of any changes before you make them! Let us know how things work out!

-Steve
