Maybe I should put this in the software forum, and maybe you can tell what s/w this is from (but I dont know)... what I want to know is how I can deciper what each line and entry on the line is telling me.

Before everyone gets pantys in a bunch, I am not going to write yet another program, I just need to know how to debug some data.

I have some systems that are corrupt (showing groups that dont exist any more but are still reference in the file and GQKs that show something associated when there is not really supposed to be, etc) and I want to fix them.

Where do I find the file format info...

Attached is an example of a corrupt file that I have... Loudoun.txt From what I see in the file it shows 7 groups yet within the software I only have 5. What gives?

Another file attached is GQK9.txt... it has one group remaining on GQK #9 and that group has 82 channels in it. The file still shows a bunch of other groups - how does a corrupt file like this even work?

Is it possible that they work, but contribute to slow or poor memory allocation, performance, etc? They make no sense to me so I am calling them corrupt. Is this a Butel problem? Is this not a problem at all? Whats up.

Please, someone, help me.

No one has replied, so I thought I would add some more info...

I know if you look at the file it appears to have 7 groups. However, in ARC it has 5. I deleted those other two and they dont appear when looking at the file in ARC. When you go to groups set up in ARC sometimes it says there are 5 of 5 groups enabled and sometimes it says there are 5 of 6 enabled (1 thru 5 are checked and 6 is pink.) To me this sounds like there is a problem with the file. I know I deleted those groups while in ARC.

Also I am noticing inconsistenceies with the first number following the group name...
in this case the number shown is 19
GROUPDATA#,"LCSO Dispatch","19","1","0","1"
what does the first number represent? This is what I desperately need to know.
Sometimes it shows up as 10, other times it shows up as the number of TGIDs in the group and other times it appears to be somewhere in between or greater than the number of TGIDs.
While we are at it, does anyone know what the third number indicates?
I know what the second and fourth numbers do.

Lastly, just so people know how I think things got messed up. I do a lot of deleting and pasting of groups and renumbering GQKs to make them line up in the order I want them to appear on the screen (ascending by GQK)... is this a bad thing to cut and past and confuse the software (and is there a better way to sort the groups to appear within a system)?

Probably more important, and more likely to be causing a problem (if there really is one), is this... I also keep all my files on a usb drive and one day I might be editing them at work and that night I might be editing the same file at home and the next day I might be editing it at work again and so on. I have the latest version of the ARC396 s/w at home, but not at work - does this create a problem? My work has locked down admin rights to my machine and I can no longer install software so I have no choice. I notice some files I have show a butel format V1.03A and some are V1.03 - so am wondering if editing the same file back and forth on two different versions of the software, the s/w is expecting one format and not the other and get confused (and corrupts the file so to speak)?

Please reply with any and all help.

im kinda lost but let me guess..

So this is the data file for a uniden programming application, the application wont read all the data you expect out of your files?

I would suggest to ensure you have the newest version of your application. Then if you cant read off the radio or import from your files

take that file and put it into excel and reimport back into your radio to fix the corruption if the software.

freescan has a real nice clipboard import tool

The deleted groups are clearly marked as deleted / non-active.

It's supposed to be the number of defined channels/talkgroups in the group.

While we are at it, does anyone know what the third number indicates?
Yes.

Maybe. Probably.

Thanks - thats exactly the info I have been looking for - but now that raises a few more questions worth asking...

The deleted groups are clearly marked as deleted / non-active.

Then how come if they are deleted / non-active, when I look at the system in the ARC software its telling me that a GQK preset is pink for group 6... when group 6 is supposed to be deleted / non-active ???
