This antenna ROX! I have been using this antenna mounted about 15 feet high for a few weeks for my primary scanner antenna and it has blown my mind as to how well it receives. I currently live in Bakersville, NC, deep in the mountains of Western NC in an area where scanning is a very quiet hobby, usually. Since I have been using this antenna I have been able to listen to more active counties, such as Buncombe County where i am from, on the other side of some 5000 ft mountains. I hadn't really paid it much attention and thought the voices just sonded similar until I started actually paying attention to what was being said, and realized I was hearing first reposnders dispatched to places near where I used to live by dispatchers whos voices I recognize. This antenna rocks. before anyone says its a band opening, its not. I get the same quality of signals in the morning, noon and night, I get the Blue Ridge Parkway rangers well, I get several surrouding counties quite well, mostly the SD and EOC dispatches and several Fireground channels for the counties. Now for the shocker: About 70% of the channels I am picking up haven't graced the display in over 2 years since I moved away from the area where these signals originate. Today I tested several other antennas to see if they had the same results, i tried a discone, a 5/8 wave VHF antenna (most of what is out here is VHF) tried a Tram dual band amateur antenna (worked well for some but not all) and a multi-band dipole, the AS still picked up more signals (tested each antenna for 2 hours) better than the rest. I am using RG11 coax about 20 feet long coming own to the back of the scanner. the scanner has been modified to use a N connector in place of the BNC. anyway, just wanted to share my joy of how well this antenna works in my situation compared to other antennas. This thing really does do what AS claims it does.
