The PRO-2096 cannot receive the military aircarft band (225 - 399.950 MHz) so you won't hear anything flying out of McGuire.

It will if one is using the Win96 software!

While that's technically true, the radio really isn't designed for it - so the sensitivity may not be the best. If this happens, the scanner isn't defective. I've seen some posts that said the sensitivity was usable for what they were doing, others not.

You might still be able to hear the VHF civil air approach/departure freqs from both McGuire and Philly, as well as anything in the 138-144 mhz band; over here in Md., we hear flights very frequently going to or coming from McGuire in that band. The 138-144 mhz range is well within the 2096's capabilities.

It's all about the ANTENNA....that little whip that comes with most scanners isn't worth very much at VHF frequencies. Are you in a home, condo, apartment, what? If you jump on over to the antennas forum, chances are real good you can get some ideas on how to improve your situation.

If you live to the east of Philly, there has been known reception problems for PHL to the east. So you say you see traffic? Where exactly are you in NJ and what direction/altitude do you think the aircraft are going. I could give you the freq to listen to for that traffic.
