I've had two local users contact me and tell me their phone overheated while listening to my Broadcastify feed and shutdown. Both got overheating popup before phone shut down and both said the phone was extremely hot to the touch.

Anyone else heard of such a thing happening while listening to a feed?

I was just out and about listening to my own feed for about an hour and half and had no problems. Wondering if it is a phone model specific problem or what.

The feed should have nothing to do with this. It's definitely a phone issue. It would most likely do it if the phone is charging at the same time or another app (ie. Maps) is running in the background.

Neither were charging, I asked them that. Now what else they had running on the phone at the same time is another question, will have to ask them.

Most folks don't force stop a program and simply close it out, not realizing the app is still running in the background.

Yes I've had it happen before on older android in my hand. It had limited apps, nothing in the background. It happened occasionally on youtube videos as well. Some sort of phone/software/hardware issue, things updated over time and it stopped doing it

I haven't had my phone (an older Android) overheat and shut down, but starting a few months ago I noticed it using more cellular data and battery power (and getting much warmer) while listening to feeds, than it did previously. It seemed to start after I let a bunch of Android system apps update for the first time in a couple years. It's probably some sort of issue with the OS and/or system apps.

iPhone SE3 phones are well documented for overheating while charging. Especially if left plugged into a charger after being fully charged

Here's the update. Met with my friend who was having the overhearing issue. Phone is a new model Samsung less than 6 months old.

Checked the app directory, 147 apps loaded, of which 32 were games. 128 apps running. Foolishly he lets his grandkids play with his phone when they are visiting. Said he was having to charge the phone once sometimes twice a day.

Went thru the apps with him one by one. Most of the apps he didn't even recognize, others he said he only used once. The biggest battery drainer according to the battery app was Facebook, which is horrible to have on any phone for battery drain.

After explaining to him that 99% of apps never close down completely when you click close, but continue to run in the background, and collect all types of info about you. And showing him how to go to systems> apps> and Force Close an app after use, I went thru the apps with him one by one.

Got rid of all the games, told him to quit giving grandkids the phone to play with, give them his old one. Deleted all the apps he didn't know what they were. And all the other useless apps that were loaded.

Told him to ALWAYS force close apps when done with them, especially Facebook. I refuse to use Facebook on my phone due to their data collecting and battery drain.

After getting phone all cleaned up and teaching how to use it properly, I fired up Broadcastify and let it run for over an hour and the phone was barely warm.

It amazes me most people have no idea how their phone works, or how to properly operate it. Most people have never heard about Force Close.

Don't even get me started on Alexa enabled devices and their spying!

Most non-technical people think they have a "phone". What they actually have is a computer that happens to be able to make calls.
The grandkids probably know more about using the "phone" than your friend does.
