Hi All,

Does anyone have any idea why I'm picking up TG 58272 (HRP-Eastern Region) here in Antigonish using an RTL SDR receiver and DSD? This is the first time I've picked up something so far away before.

Thanks

Its possible that someone from HRP was passing through the area, either administration or even a patrol vehicle heading to Sydney maybe? Anyone with an HRP Portable who was in the area and monitoring the TG would have enabled you to pick it up.

Now having said that.. I often pick up EHS Central 1 in Antigonish....more often then one would think you should. I have questioned this before and noted that some of the towers in Antigonish area are the same same 800mhz freq of some of those in the HRM area. Coincidence? I dont know...

THere was a lift on last week. I was picking up Prim-E on Musquodoboit TMR site. tower Normally I don't pick up
the MH tower from my home. Since the Fairmont TMR site uses the same frequenices, as Musquodoboit, it might be possible for Prim-E "skipped" thur that site as well.

Musquodoboit and Fairmont may share the same frequencies, but they're still two totally separate sites. The TMR is not capable of getting 'confused' because two sites have the same sets of frequencies.

A much better explanation of why EHS central 1 may be picked up around the Amherst areas would be patient transfers coming from the city. My understanding is the protocol is when they're doing a patient transfer, they keep their radio on their 'home' talkgroup, so if they're from the city they stay on central 1 until they drop off their patient, then they switch to the talkgroup of the area they're in and check in with that dispatcher.

While I agree that is also a possibility I believe ve1sef is going to be right as we'll. there was a lift on and even though they are different systems, the transmissions from zone 1 could still be lifted to sites in zone 2 with the same freq which may have been happening. This would explain HRP a lot easier then EHS as HRP isn't typically in the Antigonish area. Second to that, I am a paramedic and have at times been in areas hearing TGs I shouldn't have been at weed times like 6am...looking at the map and seeing no "central" ambulance in the area. It's begs the question, how is this happening. I think of it along the same lines as "skip" on TMR. I remember years go I posted a topic about skip and people said it wasn't possible but we all know by now that it is... Routinely we will hear commercial users cut in on EHS TGs loud and clear for a minute or 2. That shouldn't be possible but it happens. While they are 2 different systems...yes. It's still all controlled by 1 big computer. Anything is possible in my books. Lol

Keep in mind another possibility. Motorola Type II systems can have talkgroups go thru a particular site even if there is no one on that tg affiliated to that site. This is apparently so users who need to keep track of more than one tg can do so even if they are affiliated to the local site on only one tg. I have no idea about the process of getting the system to do this but one might assume that if this sort of thing is possible, then there are likely also glitches that have it happen even if no one requested it.

That would be some pretty impressive lift if a radio transmitting less than (I assume) 20 watts in the city is affiliating to a site in Antigonish, a good 125 km away.
Either a radio in the area or as Bill suggests a glitch with the switch makes a lot more sense.
