AngelFire91 said:If you really want to hear a true example of people staying calm in an emergency listen to the ATC recording of United 232, the DC-10 the crashed in Sioux City Iowa. These guys remain so calm and were even cracking jokes at some times even with the loss of all hydrolics onboard and only controlling by engine power, truely amazing. I have the recording if people want it, I'll post it.

JLHDU said:That was a great story..I did a paper in (Accident/Investigation) college on it once. In fact, I think they tried to put it down on a closed runway and ended up in a cornfield at the intersection. They had to scramble to get fire/rescue inplace was the main concern from what I remember.

AngelFire91 said:Yeah Al Haines(Captain) made the comment about being specific to a runway which I thought was really funny when I heard the tapes. Also yes they did end up lining up on a closed runway. The emergency equipment was all staged on the closed runway and they had to get them moved before the plane came in. I went to a FAA lecture where Al Haines gave his "Luck" speech. If you ever hear he is going to be around your area and giving a lecture, it is worth spending any money or time to see. It's a very very well done lecture.
