Where did you find the software? I am having the same problem you were. I need to program in specific frequencies.I detailed in previous posts my adventure in trying to program my (ebay) purchased PK-23 radios with the KPG-172D software. What finally worked was the older version 1.02 MPD SP1 released Jan 30, 2014. When that version was installed, I could then put in any frequency I wanted, including the local ham repeater frequencies, and the radio seems to work very well.
Got it, thank you!Not sure I still have it. I'll take a look, but I did switch computers at some point.
it won't attach here, send me a pm with your emailGot it, thank you!
If anyone else happens to have their copy they're willing to share, I'd be most appreciative!
PM sent, thank you!it won't attach here, send me a pm with your email
Possible to direct me to where I could purchase this older version? I've only seen the 1.12 version available. 4k1lpk@gmail.comHello!
The same problem:
I need an old version (1.02 MPD SP1, released 01/30/2014) and possibly a driver.
If anyone has one, I would be very grateful!
Would you be so kind as to dropbox me as well (USB drivers)? My E-Mail: benjamingeisler@gmx.de. I appreciate any help! Greetings from Germany, BenjaminNo problem. Check your inbox.

I tried doing a reset on a couple of old PKT-23's that I have and it didn't work for me either. I even followed the directions in the instruction manual. You will probably need to get the Kenwood KPG-172D software. I believe that if you are only going to program the PKT23's factory preset frequencies any version of the KPG-172D software should work. You can probably download a free version from somewhere.Hello dear friends, brand new user to the forum! I've had a few pkt23 radios working for about 6 years and recently received a donation of an extra used pair that seem to have been "program-locked?" - The manual's key combination to reset it in the field was not working to bring it back to factory settings. I'm hoping to find help with obtaining the correct instructions or the correct KENWOOD KPG-172D version to simply factory reset these so they can be used within our current ecosystem of the pkt23's preset frequencies. Any wisdom shared would also be much appreciated. Cheers! -Don

Thanks for the reply K0RE! I purchased a copy of the KPG-172D v1.12 and usb drivers for windows 11 earlier today for $20 usd, and it worked! What i learned was the 172D software mates with model varients Pkt-23B:K and Pkt-23:K (the key detail being the letter "K" for usa variants of the radio firmware) In the model menu of the software, the B:K model = LMR, and :K model = Protalk. You can discover which model yours is by simply plugging it in and letting it read what version your radio is. I also learned that the .dat files can not be shared between B:K models and :K models. If you want them to work together, you must manually type in the frequencies you want in any of the 4 channel's data tables to match the master. It turned out to be pretty straight forward in the end to do so, took maybe 1 minute! (Field cloning or field resetting is also a method to return to default factory settings, but apparently not on my mismatched pair that had different button configurations previously programmed by another user.)I tried doing a reset on a couple of old PKT-23's that I have and it didn't work for me either.
