Plainville Ma. P.D frequency??

It's DCS. I am still new to this thing, looking forward to plugging it into the computer and downloading everything. It came with software called freeScan. Do you know if there is better out there or is this ok.

I'm not a huge fan of Freescan, but a lot of people like it. It does some things very well and for basic programming it's OK. I also like BCTool. It comes in a free and paid version. For programming, you won't need the paid version.

ARC-XT is good, but expensive. I use it because I have several other programs from the same company and I'm at ease with the interface. Plus I found it fairly easy to import data from other versions of their software.

Firmware Update

Received the cable and things are much better now, so easy to upload everything from the RadioReference data base. The reception with this scanner is excellent..

After i connected the cable from the scanner to my computer it was unable to install the driver, gave me a prompt to insert the CD it came with and still unable to find the driver.

I am able to connect to bcTOOL and download without any issues. I'm just concerned about any update to the firmware I should be performing for the BCD996XT scanner.
