• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I use MDC to ID our radios, find it helpful when ID'ing users.

I have 3 PM400's, all with various versions of firmware, 1 is what I assume up to date or close firmware R04.01.02, the other, which handles MDC aliases is R03.00.4, the one in question is R03.00.1, which won't allow me to set aliases for MDC.

What are my options to update the firmware? I have the CPS for them, usb to serial (works perfect for all my /\/\oto radios) ribless cable, also have a rib (for my Astro Sabers, doubt that is compatible).

A) Can I obtain the firmware and use the CPS to update?
B) Obtain said required cables and firmware and do myself?
C) Go to a Moto shop and have them update the firmware? (Would prefer to learn and do myself)

In searching I find conflicting answers, some say you need a special cable, others say you don't.

If the answer is on the board or out there? Pointers on possible search terms, tried firmware update PM400, PM400 firmware, etc.

Besides the MDC alias issue the radios are doing all I need.

Thanks

Dave

I try to post the following in threads about any of these radios. I suggest you try searching with each model of the mobiles unless you are searching for the firmware itself, and then use the portables too. (Different cabling, etc.) Also use the name commercial series. Here's my standard blurb:

Search tags: The Commercial Series radios included:

Portables: CP150 CP200 CP200XLS PR400
Mobiles CM200 CM300 PM400

It may be helpful to search using wildcards. If someone
asks a question about one model, the answer usually
pertains to most, if not all.

They are all programmed with RVN4191 CPS .
The last version of the CPS released before the product
line was discontinued is R05.18.

Hi Steve

I have tried threads with just "commercial series PM400" as well as just PM400 and firmware.

I will do more digging for the answer.

Looks like I found my answer at BatLabs, looks like it was what I thought, need the flash adapter.

Might be worth the cost to just let a Moto Dealer update the 3 radios since I expect I won't need to do a firmware upgrade again, realistically I am just after the MDC Alias feature, though I am sure firmware also addresses any bugs.

Thanks.

I just saw your message, will respond there, again thanks :)

Steve, responded via PM, but for some reason I don't see them in my sent folder.

Wanted to make sure to thank you for the help, still digging and reading all I can on the commercial series and PM400 posts :)
